FAQ

Lessons are designed for anyone who is enthusiastic about music and who wants to reach their full potential on the piano. Whether that’s playing for fun or studying for exams. Gary takes on students from the ages of 6 and upwards.

Simply, no. Gary has many adult students who are starting completely from scratch or, who used to play when they were younger and have recently come back to the piano. Each one of them have been able to make big improvements in their musical ability and technical skills in a relatively short space of time.

This is largely dictated by your own personal goals but to give an overview: Gary will teach you how to read music, play by ear and give you the necessary technical and theoretical skills needed to play, up to advanced musical material if that’s your aim.

That’s great! For those who are wanting to do exams Gary mainly uses the ABRSM piano and theory syllabus. However, he also offers the Trinity College syllabus for those wanting more control over the content of their exams.

No problem! The language of music is so vast that it truly takes a lifetime to begin to understand it. So if you have no interest in taking a formal piano exam then Gary will still teach you musicality and the technical skills in order to play at the level you’re aiming for – however advanced your target.
This can be done with any musical genre, whether that is Classical, Jazz, Blues, Pop or Rock.

The lessons either happen in the comfort of your own home as Gary travels to you or online. For this to happen you will need a piano, either acoustic or digital. If you don’t currently have a piano Gary is happy to give guidance with buying your first piano before lessons will commence.
